Refurbishment and alterations to a former primary school to provide a court room, meeting rooms, secure holding & transfer cells, administration facilities and community centre.
Works were undertaken as a new initiative for tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in the local community and providing support services for local residents, victims, witnesses, as well as offenders. The sensitive nature of the works within a deprived area with social problems being the reason to negotiate a fast track works programme with a reputable contractor known in the local community.
The works comprised internal alterations for the change of use and extension to form the new cell, holding and transfer area for processing serious offenders in the main court room. Refurbishment of the existing building fabric comprised repairs to the concrete frame and floors, flat roofing membrane renewal, replacement uPVC windows, external cladding and rendering, automated entrance doors & security doors to the secure transfer areas. New mechanical & electrical services were installed throughout along with specialist CCTV, IT infrastructure and building management systems. Internal finishes are to a high specification to the formal court room and public area covering a range of new suspended ceilings, specialist wall panel systems, bespoke floor carpeting and ceramic floor tile finishes.
Externally the existing hard play areas were repaired following drainage alterations, new block paving to paths, formation of new access road, car parking and offender transfer access, installation of new security remote controlled vehicular access gates and reformation of grassed and landscaped areas to compliment the new external works configurations.
A complex short duration fast track programme delivered on time under intense scrutiny of local politicians and the general public.
