A fast track project for the installation of a new passenger lift in a feature glass lift shaft from basement to second floor in one of this Grade 2 listed building’s principal reception areas.

Access for all aspects of the construction was very restricted and to avoid disruption due to noise and personnel traffic it demanded a high level of out of hours working.

Briefly the works comprised, construction of a reinforced concrete lift pit in a tidal basement, blockwork to the shaft basement to ground, forming a new opening in the existing ground floor, a full height working scaffold was erected for the duration, fabrication and erection of the structural steel frame, installation of mains supplies, installation of a new stainless steel lift car with matching doors & fascias at all levels, the visible lift mechanisms being picked out in a contrasting colour, the steelwork was clad ground to second floor in bespoke tinted laminated glass.
